Interview | U18 winger Joe Dearman relives his stunning strike against Yeovil Town last month

This week I caught up with Cambridge United U18 winger Joe Dearman after his stunning strike against Yeovil Town was nominated for LFE Goal Of The Month for February.

Dearman's strike came in the U18's opening Merit League 1 fixture last month. After going behind within five minutes, the U's battled back to equalise and then take the lead just before half time thanks to Dearman's 25 yard freekick. The sweet left footed strike nestled into the top left hand corner of the Yeovil goal, putting the U's 2-1 up. The goal was enough to seal the victory as Jimmy Unwin's side took all three points.

When speaking to Dearman about his goal he said ' It's certainly one of the best goals I've ever scored and definitely my best this season' The winger who has scored 14 goals this season also said ' I regularly practise that finish into the top left hand corner but it hasn't come off as much as i'd have liked' he added ' I knew as soon as it left my foot that it was going in' .

I also spoke to Dearman about his goals for the rest of the season, he said 'As a team we are all looking to win the Merit League and I think we've started pretty well in trying to reach that goal' . The U18's have won two and drawn one of their opening three fixtures leaving them joint 2nd in the league, having played a game less than leaders AFC Wimbledon. ' Personally, I'd like to carry on my good form. I want to contribute to the team as much as possible, chipping in with as many goals and assists as I can and hopefully, come the end of the season we will be right up their challenging for the league title' .
