Loan Watch 4
This week’s loan watch begins with some sour news as this week 19 year old forward Joe Neal received the news that his season was over due to a quadricep tear. Subsequently, Neal has returned to the club from St. Neots Town to begin his rehabilitation. We wish Joe all the best with his recovery and look forward to tracking his progress next season.
Along with this, the news also broke this week that Tom Knowles would return to The U’s after his parent club recalled him from Chelmsford City FC. The 21 year old returns having featured 24 times for the Clarets this season, scoring five times.
Swaffham Town FC 1 - 4 Mildenhall Town FC
Harvey Steel started and played 90 minutes as Mildenhall Town returned to winning ways, defeating Swaffham Town FC 4-1. After a shock 4-0 loss to Kirkley & Pakefield in their last game, The Hall faced a Swaffham team who had won just one of their last six games, seeing them plummet to 15th in the league. Mildenhall took litte time to take the lead, scoring after just three minutes thanks to a penalty from striker James Hall. Their lead was doubled 30 minutes in after Harvey Steel’s cut back found Hall who finished excellently with the outside of his foot. Hall completed a first half hat-trick after he scored the rebound to another penalty after his initial spot kick was saved. After the break, Mildenhall added a fourth through Lawrence Hammond. However, a late goal from the hosts wiped The Hall’s chance of a first clean sheet since early December.
St. Neots Town FC 0 – 1 Berkhamsted FC
Lewis Simper collects his 3rd consecutive Man of the Match award as St. Neots suffer a 1-0 defeat to table toppers Berkhamsted FC. After no win since January 25th, Neots welcomed Berkhamsted FC who were unbeaten in their last 10. St. Neots started strongly, however it was Berkhamsted who took the lead. After a long punt up the field found its way through the St. Neots defence, Berkhamsted’s Chamberlain found himself one-on-one with Iron, Chamberlain finished convincingly to put The Comrades ahead. St. Neots battled hard to get back into the game but to no avail as Berkhamsted held on to their lead running out 1-0 winners. Other loanees Finley Iron and Tom Dickens started and played 90 minutes in the loss, although both displayed promising performances against tough opposition.
Coleshill Town FC 1 – 1 Yaxley FC
Sam Bennett played 75 minutes before being replaced by Jake Battersby, as Yaxley FC missed an opportunity to strengthen their play-off chances drawing 1-1 with Coleshill Town . After their 10 goal thriller last weekend, Yaxley travelled to 15th place Coleshill Town. It was a dominant first half display from the visitors however there lack of quality in the final third meant the teams went in level at the break. Just after the break however, Yaxley’s good work was undone when Coleshill's striker was brought down in the box and the referee awarded a penalty to the hosts. Goalkeeper Paul Hathaway dispatched the spot kick on his 337th appearance for The Colemen. Yaxley hit back with 12 minutes left on the clock, when a harmless ball into the box took a deflection of Coleshill's captain and looped over Hathaway who was left stranded. A late chance for Yaxley to win the game was rocketed against the woodwork and as a result the game ended in a draw.
